Color Theory Journalling: Paint Color Swatches in Gouache
Make color swatches using gouache paints to document the following color terms in your journal:
Primary Colors:
red,
yellow, &
blue
Secondary Colors:
orange (red + yellow),
green (yellow + blue), &
purple (blue + red)
Tertiary Colors:
red-orange,
yellow-orange,
yellow-green,
blue-green,
blue-purple, &
red-purple
Tint:
Mixing a color (hue) with white will make a tint, which means the color is getting lighter.
Shade:
Mixing a color (hue) with black will make a shade, which means the color is getting darker.
Tone:
Mixing a color (hue) with gray will make a tone, which means the color is getting muted or desaturated.
Warm Colors:
red-purple,
red,
red-orange,
orange,
yellow-orange, &
yellow
Cool Colors:
yellow-green,
green,
blue-green,
blue,
blue-purple, &
purple
