I love illustrated journalling. I love drawing or painting small illustrations while writing down crazy thoughts on the subject. And this is exactly what I did in this tutorial.

I was inspired by the idea of journalling about coffee mugs because I love drinking coffee. I can’t live without it. And there are lots of beautifully designed coffee mugs out there. So I decided to paint some coffee mug designs using gouache in a journal spread.

Step 1

Sketch a number of coffee mug shapes.

Step 2

Paint the coffee mug shapes. I used gouache in my demonstration. You can of course use any painting materials you like.

Step 3

Design patterns on these coffee mugs.

Step 4

Journal your thoughts on the subject. I imagined what a coffee mug could do. So I just wrote down what I thought alongside the illustrations.
